Pitch in very good condition for today's FA Trophy fixture V. Lincoln United ( after the referee's inspection at 9.15am) surface very soft in places, so take a last look at a playing surface which has a good covering of healthy green grass, to what will become a sea of mud at the end of the game, there were supposed to be five games in nine day's to be played on the pitch, last Saturday postponed, Tuesday played, Wednesday played, today's game now on, with the Sunday Cup fixture Fantail V.Home Bargains to be played tomorrow Sunday, which is just ridiculous for any Groundsman to cope with.
Whoever organised the Sunday Cup game, would they please have a referee on standby on Sunday morning, for a pitch inspection, because I know now, what state the pitch will be in, just have some consideration for the Groundstaff please, for any future ground rentals, and fixture schedules, in other words do not have five games in nine day's !!

Thank you Les, much appreciated, it was a tough week to say the least, I would also like to thank all the volunteers who have assisted down at the ground over the past eleven season's ( and at White Moss Park previously) during my 15 years as Groundsman at this great football club I have enjoyed every minute in producing a playing surface fit for purpose, along with winning 5 National Awards it has been an honour that I will alway's look back on with lot's of great memories.
As from 1.30pm yesterday, I am no longer associated with the Football Club, and I wish all the supporters and Tommy and his staff/ players all the very best for the rest of the season, this will be the very last "Weekly Pitch Update" that I will edit on this forum.
Best wishes to everyone, Peter.

I read your last post Peter, and am very surprised and shocked,at the decision to end your involvement at the club after many years and thousands of unpaid hours,a real sad day for the club. I for one would like to say thank you for your every effort both on the groundsman side of things as well as the effort put in framing banners, history and putting a bit of colour into the social club when it desperately needed it.lets just say when the floors were warped and you needed spiked boots to descend from one corner to the bar,at least history was around everyone to remind everyone of past glories. The one constant has always been the amazing pitch at Skelmersdale and 5 groundsman titles proves beyond doubt that your attention to detail made you a winner and ultimately helped Tommy the Skem manager to play the football the way he wanted to play it,(not plan b south lancs amateur football, because of mud)and also achieve well deserved honours his football and teams duly deserve. Always a true gentleman,I for one thank you,and I'm sure others upon hearing this news will thank you one way or another.

I personally would like to thank you,for the insight, training, and advice, you gave to me over the past 5 seasons. It's been a pleasure to work with someone who is always thinking 2 steps ahead and the vast majority of the time got it right. With a rough average of one groundsmans title every 3 years you had at the club I think it's a sad day for the club that they lose a winner off the pitch, behind the scenes,it is a legacy I think will not be beaten at this club on a tight budget ever. The next guy has very big shoes to fill as well as an ongoing battle with the Japanese knot weed extending its way onto the grass banks and ultimately the pitch, the mole invasion every year, that many involved with the club may not care about but without the planning and removing of,would have caused mayhem on the pitch a long time ago,add to the maintenance around the ground on a daily basis... Especially at this club, suddenly the awards seem to mean something, not just cutting a pretty line into the pitch, which makes anyone who thinks thats all you do,and uses that statement, look like the halfwits they obviously are. Thank you

You will be back peter you just can't stay away too long!
You're like me, jacking it in every week, getting pissed off with the job but just can't seem to break that love for the club!
This is not a good luck message this is a will see you in a fortnight message!

After three days of rain interrupted work the ground staff have finally got a surface to play on That's provided the elements want to let us play
However the important bit is there will be an early inspection and the in formation will be displayed on here around 9-30 ish
I am confident

So you want there to be a match on Tuesday
Please help repair the playing surface Sunday from 9-30
If you have a fork bring it along it will not be lonely But don't worry if you don't have a fork because your feet can be put to good use Thanks in advance
