Skelmersdale United supporters and manager Tommy Lawson were boosted at the weekend that Supporters Player of the Year and team ever present Martin Fearon has committed his future to the Stormy Corner based club.
The 27 year old Blackburn born goalkeeper has made himself a firm fans favourite over the last two years with some outstanding performances, his excellence giving Tommy Lawson a firm foundation on which to build his team for the coming season. At the clubs annual presentation evening three weeks ago, Martin’s popularity was clear when he picked two of the clubs three prestigious player of the year awards.
Tommy Lawson commented earlier in the week; “Brian (assistant manager Brian Richardson) and me are absolutely delighted with the news, Martin was approached by Marine since the season ended, but has turned down there offer to stay at Skelmersdale. Having a good goalkeeper is crucial if you are to be among the challengers in any league and Martin is right up there with the best, his attitude is brilliant and his early commitment to the cause says much about the ambitions of the club and will make it easier for us to persuade other players to join us.”
When asked about the movements among player this summer Tommy said; “Only one player is set to leave the club, Paul Woolcott (age 28), but that isn’t for footballing reasons as he is hanging up his boots to get more involved in his families business. We have agreements in place with a number of new signings, but as everyone knows from previous close seasons we only reveal them when they are one hundred percent confirmed, so that we don’t alert other clubs that they are available.” Tommy did tell us and the list is impressive, but we agreed to Tommy’s request.
Skelmersdale United have already announced the freezing of season ticket prices at last season’s prices and they are on sale by ringing 01695 575958.
