Skelmersdale United returned to action with a 2-0 defeat to Colwyn Bay which saw their six-match unbeaten run come to an end.
United welcomed Callum Jones, Michael Vaughan-Muscat and Alaster Redmayne into the matchday squad after lenghty injuries while Bay's 16 included former United duo Josh Brizell and Jamie Rainford.
The visitors started the better of the two sides with a clever cross from Danny Bartle three minutes in finding Louis Barnes out on the left wing, his shot sailing over the crossbar. Bay went close to opening the scoring on ten minutes as Astley Mulholland rounded Callum Roberts but was unable to get a shot on target. However, the deadlock was broken within three minutes as after Bartle's effort forced a corner, Will Booth connected to the corner to tap past Roberts for 1-0.
Colwyn went close to a second goal on 28 minutes as Bartle set up Mulholland but with only Roberts to beat he fired right at the 'keeper. The lead was doubled minutes later as Mulholland found Bartle who tucked the ball past Roberts to give the visitors a two-goal advantage with half an hour played. United replied with Andy Owens forcing a save from Matt Cooper before Louis Barnes forced a parry from Roberts and at the other end, Cooper was on hand to save a free-kick from Owens.
Skem had a good chance to cut the deficit just before half-time as a Callum Mahoney cross forced a strong puch from Cooper. Their first effort of the second half saw Bevan Burey send a shot over the bar before a clever run from Owens was halted by Sam Barnes. Owens went even closer to getting on the scoresheet as Nathan Randell put him in on goal with Gareth Grant cutting off the danger.
Bay responded with a mazy run from Bartle which saw him cut inside before lofting the ball over the bar. United were under pressure again as a run from Lassana Mendes saw him sweep in a cross which Roberts caught comfortably. United's late chance to trouble the scoreline saw Owens force a diving save from Cooper with five minutes remaining but Bay held firm to claim consecutive wins as United's unbeaten streak came to halt.
