United made it back to back-draws on the road as they staged a superb comeback from 3-0 down to draw 4-4 against Mossley at Seel Park as Phil Mooney made his 150th appearance for the club.
With heavy rain and snow falling for much of the week, the game was unlikely to get the go ahead, as Skem fans waiting with baited breath, the groundsman and his staff at Mossley were working wonders to try and get the game on, their dividend paid of handsomely in the first half but United fought back to get a well deserved share of the points
Goals from Jack Tuohy, Elliot Harrison and a penalty from Michael Fish gave the hosts a 3-0 half-time advantage. United fought back with Jordan Darr striking ahead of a Mike Roddy penalty and leveller from Alaster Redmayne before a frantic finish saw Tom Dean restore the hosts lead only to see Darr claim a point right at the death.
United made one change from the defeat to Tadcaster Albion with Bevan Burey coming in for Alaster Redmayne who dropped to a bench which included fit again duo Liam Hollett and Arnold Baxendale with Jack Lenehan included after joining from Chorley. An early chance for United saw Jordan Darr advance down the wing and cross low for Bevan Burey, whose close range effort was blocked by the combination of Keenan Quansah and Oliver Martin.
Mossley responded with a long range free-kick which Callum Roberts claimed comfortably before going achingly close to opening the scoring, Adam Latham timing his run perfectly to collect Martin's long range kick and in advancing on goal, his shot across goal evaded the oncoming Liam Ellis and the far post. The hosts opened the scoring on 16 minutes as Jack Tuohy collected a long range pass to advance on goal before clipping the ball over the onrushing Roberts for 1-0.
United responded with Darr crossing low for Tyler Rufus but strong defending denied him a shot at goal. At the other end, Tuohy clipped a shot over the bar after a clever cross from Latham. Skem were lucky not to go further behind as a well-worked attack saw Mike Fish beat Roberts from just outside the area with the shot cannoning back off the post. United suffered a double blow on the half hour with Callum Mahoney going off injured and the hosts doubling the lead as Elliot Harrison fired in for 2-0 after collecting a corner. Mossley looked to be out of sight with 41 minutes on the clock as Fish tucked away a penalty for 3-0 after Tom Mitchell had upended Ellis.
United went close to pulling a goal back before half time as Rufus swept a shot across goal with Burey unable to connect at the far post and as the whistle blew for half-time, United needed a huge second half fightback to avoid consecutive defeats. The fightback began four minutes after the restart as Darr connected to Roddy's free-kick to head past Martin for 3-1. The deficit was cut further in the 64th minute as a United counter-attack saw Jack Fleming release Rufus who advanced on goal and in attempting to carve open the defence was upended by Logan Jeffs, Mike Roddy stepping up to slot past Martin for 3-2.
Mossley came close to restoring their two goal advantage as Tuohy sent a free-kick narrowly past the post while Phil Mooney looked to mark his milestone game with a goal as he forced a save from Martin with a shot just inside the touchline. United completed their miraculous comeback on 86 minutes but in controversial circumstances as with heavy fog on the far side of the pitch, Alaster Redmayne collected the ball and advanced on goal to fire past Martin with the hosts furious that he had not been flagged for offside.
Mossley regained the lead just two minutes later with captain Tom Dean latching onto an inswinging free-kick to head past Roberts for 4-3 but they were to be denied the win late on as a long aerial pass from Fleming saw Darr connect from close range to tap past Martin for 4-4.
The final whistle sounded with the visiting fans happy to claim a point and the hosts disappointed not to have claimed all three points.
