After last weekend's games on Sat /Sun plus training on Tue / Thur this week, the pitch was in a bad way this morning, I decided to wait for a couple of hours to see if the surface dried out, it did, so I rolled across the pitch from the club house end towards the far end which was still holding water, after two hours when I had reached this section it had improved very well, after another two hours, I had finished.
Due to training each Tue/Thur from now until the end of the season, Friday will be the only day each week that I will be able to prepare for our Saturday fixtures, providing that the weather is favourable !! if it ever rains on a Friday, I will not be able to produce a suitable playing surface, so be warned, do not expect my usual standards, and be prepared for (hopefully not) some very poor playing conditions, if I cannot use any machinery in wet conditions, so be it !!
I am already preparing a pitch renovation schedule for the close season, if any supporters are willing to assist during the Summer, please make contact with myself at any of the home games, so that I can organise the workload during this very busy period, please do your very best, it is your club, all volunteers will be greatly appreciated.

Just returned from the ground 10am, pitch is fine, no standing water after all the overnight rain, but the surface is very soft, which will require studs not blades, take note all players !!
Every season I always have one game that "cuts the pitch up " and more or less makes it very difficult for the rest of the season, this will be the one !! with rain due at 4pm just as we kick off the second half !! never mind, a win and three points, will put a smile on everyone's face, myself included.

Pitch in very good condition, for our home League fixture V. Ramsbottom, the rest, plus the fine weather we have had recently (plus two mole kills !!) has greatly improved the surface, so let's hope that we have a good game, with the right result !!
My recent request for volunteers during the close season to assist down at the Ground, has once again left me wondering whether it is all worthwhile being the Groundsman here at this Football Club, supporters attend our home games on a Tue/Sat during the Season, without fail, where do they all disappear to during the Summer month"s ? surely there must be some spare time to assist with the work that has to be done, I cannot take a break, the posts come down after the last game, and I start again for twelve weeks of preparation, before we kick off again !! come on please I need help.

After the training sessions on Tuesday and Thursday this week, plus the very heavy rainfall, the pitch has suffered a lot of damage, it is a good job that we are not at home tomorrow, because today there was standing water everywhere, I will do my best to try and restore the playing surface before the games next Wednesday night for our visitors from Canada, first game ko 6pm, 2nd game ko 7.30pm.

Visited the ground this morning to see for myself what the conditions were like after all the rainfall, to find that the Youth game had been called off yesterday !! (communication please, would be helpful) I new what to expect, but I wanted to see for myself, standing water all over the pitch, the worst conditions I have witnessed for many a year, the forthcoming Youth fixture for next Wednesday is very doubtful, with more rain expected all next week, also the Training sessions for the First Team look uncertain, so please keep me informed (if it is not too much trouble) anyway, if the surface remains the same, nobody will be using the pitch this week as I will be having a very difficult workload to prepare ( just to get onto the pitch with any machinery) for our home Fixture V. Rushall Olympic on Saturday.
So please have a thought for your Groundsman, before any more damage is done.

Just returned from the Stadium after a pitch inspection, there is standing water all over the pitch, spent a couple of hours trying to fork away the problem, so after the training session this week I could not get onto the surface due to the amount of rain that we have had over the course of this week, therefore the playing surface is just as the training session has left it, the strong winds this week have been a great help, but when I need them today, nothing !!
As our opponents for tomorrow's game Rushall Olympic, are travelling from the Walsall area, I need volunteers at 8am (bring your own forks) so we could try and disperse this standing water, we may not have to do anything, if over the next 24hours we do not have any heavy downpours, we should be ok, according to the local weather forecast only a 10% chance of some fine drizzle, but you never know !!
I have asked John Sewell to contact Bryn, with regards to the referee situation (inspection) these are all precautionary measures, and hopefully will not be required.
So please do not let me down, do your very best to help out.

After my 8am pitch inspection, everything is looking good for today's game v. Rushall Olympic, all surface water has drained away, leaving a very soft / heavy /in places playing surface, phoned Bryn to inform the Referee and Rushall.
Re, my request for volunteers, I would like to thank Les Gallop and Alan, "I got you out of bed this morning boy's, all for nothing" at least you turned up !!

After all the hard work leading up to a pulsating game V. FC United last night, I would like to thank all the volunteer Stewards who assisted with the crowd control/parking throughout the evening, you all did a great job !!
I would also like to thank Stuart Thompson, for all his efforts last week in assisting/ preparing the pitch, and Nick for his marking out, plus Tony Brown for cutting around all the grass banking, that is what I like to see, when the "chips" are down they all turned up.
Also, I had a pleasant surprise when I arrived at the ground this morning (dreading to see litter everywhere) it had all been cleared up !! a huge thank you to Mike/ John Sewell and Tommy Garner, and whoever else assisted, well done boy's, just makes my job a lot easier.

Very good working week down at the ground, with the weather being perfect for the re-establishment of the playing surface, we managed to Verti Drain / Fertilise / and Drill Seed the whole pitch !! I have never before had the opportunity within 48 hours to achieve all this work.
Now, as the rain is pouring down, it could not be better for a quick start for the germination of the seed to establish itself, but still remember, I do need volunteers to assist during the Summer month's, it is not just the pitch that requires attention, there are many more job's that need addressing, so please try your very best to help out when you can, see you all later at our Presentation Night, should be a good evening.

Just received notification/confirmation of the following Charity Matches to be played in June:
Saturday June 13th Youth Charity Match (no idea of ko time) Saturday June 20th Charity Match (Chris Long) 3pm ko Sunday June 21st 02 Charity Match (Steve) 6.30pm ko Saturday June 27th / Sunday June 28th Youth Tournament ko 9.00am both days.
The above dates leave us with 24 days, to hopefully have the playing surface ready, the goalposts require painting, and the nets washed, then goal posts to be erected. Would it be possible for the organisers of the above games to assist down at the ground over the next few weeks, it would be most helpful.
Today, there are bare patches, with the seed just starting to germinate, all over the surface, showing half inch to one inch of growth, so help will be required with the watering etc (if no rain) to encourage as quickly as possible an established sward, to ensure that there will be as little damage damage as possible, the grass will be left long, and only half inch topped off, plus marking out, a few days before these games commence.
From a very busy Groundsman, Peter. (Assisted by Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell)

The weather has been excellent this week for the playing surface, new seed showing good growth, two cuts this week at 3 inch's (80mm) which has produced a very good sward, and the fertiliser has made a big difference with regards to the overall colour.
I painted the goalposts etc yesterday, and the nets are being cleaned, as we have only 15 days to our first match, i would appreciate any assistance over the next couple of weeks (where has everyone gone ?) with cleaning up /weeding etc (as I have requested many times before)
Thank you to Nick Robertson for helping out on Tuesday, and to Stan for strimming around the car park, Stuart has gone back to work after all his efforts over the past few month's, so I am a bit short, to say the least on manpower, please do your best to help out.

Excellent working day down at the ground today, "Super Brickie" Les has made rapid progress on the pitch perimeter wall, helped by his " labourers " Nick / Dave / Dave, who worked non stop all day, and John & Mike who have made a good start on the dressing rooms (the air fresheners have made a difference !! )
Les will be at the ground tomorrow, Sunday, to continue the bricklaying, he would appreciate some help if anybody is available.
A big thank you to everyone who turned up, well done !!
