Rained off today !! I could have used another word beginning with the letter "P" but thought otherwise !! We tried out Paul "Noah" Griffiths brand new "Ark" but it fell apart, and we were stranded in the middle of the pitch, but managed to get ashore, and called it a day !!
The weather tomorrow (Saturday) hopefully, should be better, to enable all the volunteers (who are turning up) to finish off the remaining jobs that are outstanding.
Please do your very best to turn up tomorrow, your help will be most appreciated, Paul and I will also be at the ground on Sunday.

OK Chris, let you off this time !! there is loads of DIY down at the ground !! which needs attending to, so I had a good few hours today, talking to myself !!
Should finish off the Astro section this week, which will save a lot of "wear and tear" on the pre-match warming up, (shuttles etc) and the linesmen running up and down (I hope !!)
Weather forecast not very promising for the coming week, but we will do our best.

Excellent day down at the ground, lot's of "snagging" jobs completed, a big thank you to all the volunteers who turned up today !!
Pitch will be ready for our first (home) pre-season friendly V. Southport, next Tuesday July 24th KO 7.45pm.
Please don't forget, that I still require help at the ground, and over the next thirty days (before our first Home League fixture V Lancaster City) we can complete all the outstanding jobs to kick off the new season, I know, and understand, it is difficult for many of you to find time, but I am now coming to the end of my tether, asking time, and time again, for volunteers, which appears to have fallen on "deaf ears" !! this has been the worst close season maintenance, I have known, for lack of support, please don't leave it to "The Usual Crew" without their help, we would not have achieved anywhere near, the amount of work so far !! if twenty or thirty volunteers turned up over a weekend, all the work would be finished in two days !! (but I am living in dream land) let's see what happens !!

Just to keep you all up to date, with the comments regarding our "poor pitch" !! on the Southport (or should I say Skemport) forum this week.
The so called "expert" who made this comment, did not realise that there is another three weeks work still to be done !! to be anywhere near the standard that I set !! but the world is full of people like this, who can all do the job better !!
After the five "Groundsman Of The Year" awards/nominations over the past few seasons, I take it all with a pinch of salt !!
Maybe they were blaming the "poor state of the pitch" for their performance !! our lads played very well, on the same surface ?? well done Tommy and the team !! I rest my case !!

The so called 'expert' obviously underestimated 'THE MIGHTY BLUE' boys who IMHO we're magnificent & the BETTER TEAM won. As S/B2 says the pitch looks tremendous & a credit to yourself & the oracle!!

Pitch ok ( for this evenings PSF V. Stockport County, KO 7.45pm) requires another fertiliser, during the next few weeks, to give it a nitrogen "boost" at this moment it has the "Red Thread" problem, that we suffer each close season, caused by the humid conditions !! nothing to worry about !! it will disappear of it's own accord !!
Power washed the "Dugouts" removed all the algea etc, just require the facia board to finish off, but there is still a lot of work to be done !! so please help if you can !! Looking forward to another good game, see you later !!

Busy week down at the ground, very warm !! several jobs completed, with the help of Nick & Billy, many thanks boy's, well done !!
Still cutting out the "couch grass" and "meadow grass" which is growing long ! and will self seed if not removed with the rotary mower, but the surface is looking good for our Skelmersdale V Burscough Youth game on Sunday morning K.O 11.00am, come along and watch some great young footballers, who will be the next Noone, McConville, Donnelly ? you never know !! these young lads are the future of our Football Club !!
If you are not going to the game at Conwy, Billy Leigh and myself will be working at the ground, from approx 10.30am, if you feel like you want to help, join us !! you will be very welcome !!

Perfect weather today for the fertiliser application !! humid and dry, then a light shower !! but I hope tomorrow's heavy rain will not wash it all away !!
The ratio of, 20% Nitrogen, 10% Phosphorus Pentoxide, 10% Potassium Oxide, should make a huge difference in the colour and general appearance to the playing surface, over the next few weeks !! which will mean a lot of grass will have to be cut !! this will be the first time that I have applied 20% Nitrogen ( at this amount ) let's see what happens !!
On Sunday there is an inter company game, between Morrisons Ormskirk V. Morrisons St. Helens, kick off approx 5.30 / 6.00pm (there could be a few "Buns" flying about !!) with a fund raiser in the Clubhouse afterwards, come along and join in !!

Just returned from the ground, after the torrential downpour, that descended at lunch time !!
The pitch took it very well, with sections of standing water ( immediately after the deluge ) which had dispersed ninety minutes later, when I left at 3.00pm !! So, we should have a good surface, for our game tonight, V. Lancaster City kick off 7.45pm see you later !!

Called in at Formby today to view the condition of the pitch, the groundstaff, Ian & Dave, have done an excellent job preparing for tomorrow's FA Cup game, KO 3.00pm.
It is one of the biggest pitches we will have to play on this season !! very wide !! with a good covering of grass, well boxed off, with four or five small areas that have been re-seeded (but not quite germinated yet) it is their first home game of the season.
Looking forward to a good game of football, and hopefully, progress to the next round. See you all tomorrow !!

Pitch in excellent condition (for tomorrow's home fixture V. Ossett Albion ko 3.00pm) the high nitrogen fertiliser that was applied last week, is now showing a nice shade of green !! a big thank you, to my hardworking assistant groundsman Nick Robertson, well done !! See you all at the game !!

Busy day down at the ground, Paul , Billy, Chris, replacing a section of floor, within the clubhouse (doing a very good job) I must have removed a ton of grass cuttings off the pitch !! using the Hayter Tractor Mower, which will make it easier for Nick, later in the week !!
The rate of growth has been unbelievable over the past few weeks, pitch needs cutting every couple of days, just to keep on top of it, light rain tonight, which is just what I want !! followed by fine, warm weather from 9am tomorrow for the rest of the week, so let's enjoy it while it lasts. At least Ramsbottom's pitch should be in good condition for tomorrow's game (after all their recent problems with flooding) with this recent spell of good weather, should be ok.

After another cut on Wednesday, the pitch is looking good for tomorrow's FA Cup game at home to Clitheroe, ko 3.00pm.
You have to cut the grass every other day, during this warm, humid spell of weather, but after looking at it this morning, I decided it would be ok !! (should add another inch by 3pm on Saturday !!) so we litter picked, and made sure the Stadium looked ok, for the visit of Alan Allcock, the Evostick League Secretary, who will be presenting Tommy with the Manager of The Month Award (the wall space is reducing rapidly to display all the awards that our Manager has won !! long may it continue !!)
Should be another entertaining game (with all credit to the Team) who have been playing exceptionally well so far this season, looking forward to another great match !! See you all tomorrow.
P.S. If you see anyone dropping litter around the Stadium, could you please do me a favour and shove the individual concerned, HEAD FIRST INTO THE LITTER BIN PROVIDED !! Thank you.
