Ideal weather conditions today (no wind) !! to lower the floodlights, and to replace the blown bulb !! all 12 lights cleaned, inside and out !! should make a big difference considering the amount of dirt that was removed from the glass !!
Nick finished off the pitch prep for tomorrows home, Burscough v. Frickley Athletic k.o. 3pm.
Thanks to Paul, Nick, Bob, and Stu for their assistance, great job, well done boys !!

Excellent result yesterday (sorry I missed it!!) well done the ten men !! interesting comments re the state of Farsley's pitch, let's see what happens when we play them on our surface !!
Wednesday's fixture, Burscough v. FC United has been postponed, due to United's draw at Durham on Saturday, makes it a bit easier for Nick, just to prepare for Burscough V Stafford Rangers next Saturday Nov 12.

Nice one Bill !! rest assured, I will definitely be "overseeing" all matters concerning the maintenance of the pitch, for the rest of the season.
Thank you for constructing the "glass waste container" you will make a good "chippy" yet !! just remember to use "Screwfix" screws !! as our Chairman Paul recommends !!

Good weather today for Nick to prepare the pitch for Saturday's home fixture V. AFC Fylde. Problems with both of the mowers this week, but managed to repair the tractor, which helped Nick to "brush/roll " the surface, so it all turned out ok in the end !! thanks Nick.
Well it's that time of the year again !! whilst Nick was busy outside, I was inside the club, (much warmer !! I'm not daft !!) preparing for the forthcoming festivities, with the help of Karen, John, and Mike, many thanks for your assistance today, greatly appreciated !!

Thank you, Standbanger Ian, for your kind words !! greatly appreciated.
Well, the weather today was perfect to prepare the pitch for Tuesday's home game v. Clitheroe, so I decided after 6 weeks rest, to see if the torn ligament, in my back, had repaired itself, it had !! great !!
The reason I went down to the pitch today, was to get as much prep as possible, before the weather changes to wet and windy, especially Tuesday, when heavy rain is due !! therefore the fine sunny day that we had, was perfect, even though it was a Sunday.
When you are a Groundsman, sometimes you have to put in a little extra !! and, don't forget, you have to work with the weather forecasts, so you have to choose the appropriate day's when they are available !!

You were spot on Kev, Ann had a roast dinner waiting, which finished me off for the day !!
Thank you Chris, at the ground today, Nick marked the pitch out, whilst I supervised !! mind you, I must have walked 10 miles, up and down the pitch !! but that sort of excercise will be ok !! just have to remember, no lifting !! leave all that to "Super Muscles Nick" thirty years younger !!
After instructing Nick how to correctly attach the drive belt on the tractor mower, so it collects, and not distributes, the grass all over the pitch !! he apologised profusely !! (that is why the air was blue on Sunday morning, and I had a good rant !!) Nick is a hard working lad, and without his help, I would struggle, so I must not complain !!
I must say the pitch looked in excellent condition, and look forward to a good game, with three points to finish off with !! but it will not be easy !!
And by the way, there is some heavy rain due after lunchtime tomorrow, so I will keep my eye on the pitch conditions, should cope with any downpour without any problems.

Pitch played very "fast" on Tuesday night, the reason was, I cut out a lot of tufts of grass that were growing faster than the other grass around them !! this stopped the "bobble" that had been happening during previous games, you have to do this at various times throughout the season, especially at this time of the year !! There was a lot of surface water on the pitch at 3pm, but after 3 hours of forking, and no more downpours !! I managed to have it ready for the referee at 5.30pm, excellent drainage !! good job it did not pour down at 5.30 !! because it takes three hours to clear !!
The "Groundhopper" who visited the game V. Clitheroe, had some very complimentary remarks re his visit, "stunning pitch" !! etc, have a look on his website, good read !!
Nick, finished off today, the prep for tomorrow's Burscough v. Rushall Olympic game, pitch looks fine, weather should be ok.
Then pitch prep for Burscough v. FC United, Doodson Cup, on Wednesday Dec 7th, ko 7.45pm, followed again on Saturday December 7th Burscough v. Whitby Town, no rest for Groundsmen!! just look forward to when we are next at home !! Saturday December 17th when we entertain Garforth Town !! everything will have seized up by then !! See you all at the away games !!

Ground visit, to view the conditions, after all the torrential rain/hail !! standing water everywhere !! good job Liverpool Ladies were not down to play today !!
The rain has done a lot of the work for me !! any large divots I was able to replace, but will leave the surface water to drain off naturally, then see what amount of rain falls, over the next few days. Pitch prep, for the Burscough v. FC United game on Wednesday Dec 7th ko 7.45pm, will be difficult, if this weather continues, but we will do our best !!
What we do not want, is a similar situation as last year, when we played three games at home, within a week, during very wet weather, and ruined the pitch completely, for the rest of the season !!

Well, as you all know by now, tonights Burscough V. FC United, Doodson Cup game, has been called off, due to a waterlogged pitch, it will now be played next Wednesday, December 14th ko 7.45pm.
The pitch just could not take the recent amount of rain, that has fallen over the last few days !! the drainage system has worked overtime, but could not remove the sheer amount of water, fast enough !! as it cleared, it poured down again, leaving surface water everywhere !! the top 12 inches of turf is totally saturated !!
The problem now is, that tomorrow, Thursday, more heavy rain is due !! then on Friday light showers, followed by a frost overnight on Friday, so another pitch inspection at 8.30am, on Saturday morning, to inform Whitby Town, before they set off, for their game here, V.Burscough. !! no rest for the wicked !!
Just a few minor problems that the Groundsmen her at Stormy Corner, or sould I say ("Aqua Corner" which is more appropriate) have to endure, at this time of the year !!

Ground visit today, pitch still very wet in centre circle, see what we can do tomorrow, but more heavy rain and strong winds expected !!
Will keep you all up to date, over the next two days, with regards to the Burscough V FC United game on Wednesday December 14th.
What is required, is two dry days, with a good drying wind !! but don't hold your breath !!

Good weather over the past few days, has helped to dry out the pitch, good surface for tonights Burscough V. FC United, Doodson Cup game, ko 7.45 pm, but be warned, it will be cold !! Managed to complete the roof covering for the "Cabin" with Paul, so at least we can now work inside, without being soaked !!
